Type: Historic House/Palace

Godolphin is one of Cornwall's unknown gems; quiet and beautiful, tucked away in the lush countryside yet only 15 minutes drive from St. Michaels Mount. With over 700 years of Cornish history, the privately-owned Tudor and Stuart mansion complete with its Elizabethan stables, surrounded by its formal gardens and spectacular bluebell woods, will give visitors a unique and unforgettable experience.

A four year programme of specialist repairs is near completion with the North range (on columns) yet to be done. Beautifully repaired using traditional and modern techniques and a largely Cornish workforce.

Birthplace of Sidney, 1st Earl and Lord Treasurer to Queen Anne, Godolphin is steeped in history, both Cornish and national. Good 16th and 17th century English oak furniture and paintings by the American impressionist painter Elmer Schofield. The King's room has an exhibition of large, contemporary paintings by Robert Organ.

Godolphin is a family home; intimate, warm and welcoming. We welcome visitors from overseas and can provide interpreters if required.

Unusually good lunches and proper Cornish cream teas (Thunder and Lightening) are served in a traditional marquee in the orchard and features locally sourced produce. All food is made fresh on the premises and to a high standard. There is a new shop off the courtyard in the house, featuring food quality local and international products. Plant sales are by nationally acclaimed local grower Vicki Marshall from Godolphin Hill Nursery.

There are excellent disabled facilities, good access and parking for coaches. Children and families will discover many interesting things to do. There is a display of local, un-restored farm wagons in the c1600 stables.

Godolphin is a must for those who wish to experience the essence of Cornwall and offers an alternative to the well-trodden tourist trail.
